We do not publish a warrant canary for Australia. That is because the law there does not allow the kind of statement a canary makes, not because this page is being used as a warning.
Why there is no canary
Due to local regulations regarding telecommunications and national security, we are legally prohibited from publishing transparency metrics regarding the existence or non-existence of secret government data requests in this jurisdiction.
Relevant governing legislation includes the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979 and the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979 (No. 2) 2015 (Cth). Section 182A & Section 280: Explicitly criminalizes the disclosure of information regarding the 'existence or non-existence' of interception or journalist information warrants.
