We do not publish a warrant canary for Brazil. That is because the law there does not allow the kind of statement a canary makes, not because this page is being used as a warning.
Why there is no canary
Due to local regulations regarding telecommunications and national security, we are legally prohibited from publishing secret government data requests in this jurisdiction. Doing so, even indirectly via a warrant canary, may risk severe legal or criminal penalties for our local staff. Therefore, no dynamic canary is published for this jurisdiction.
Relevant governing legislation includes the Marco Civil da Internet (Law No. 12.965/2014) and the Code of Civil Procedure. Segredo de Justiça (Judicial Secrecy): Court orders for data handovers or IP logs in Brazil are frequently issued under strict judicial secrecy. The legal framework does not recognize corporate transparency loopholes; exposing a secret court order via a canary drop violates the segredo de justiça, putting local executives at immediate risk of arrest.
