Warrant Canary
Hungary
We do not publish a warrant canary for Hungary. That is because the law there does not allow the kind of statement a canary makes, not because this page is being used as a warning.
Why there is no canary
Due to local regulations regarding telecommunications and national security, we are legally prohibited from publishing secret government data requests in this jurisdiction. Doing so, even indirectly via a warrant canary, may risk severe legal or criminal penalties for our local staff. Therefore, no dynamic canary is published for this jurisdiction.
Relevant governing legislation includes the Act CXXV of 1995 on the National Security Services and the Act LXXXVIII of 2023. National Sovereignty Protections: Hungarian law grants state intelligence and anti-terrorism agencies sweeping, unchecked powers to compel data handovers.
Relevant legislation
Below we've added links to relevant legislation, for your convenience. These are not exhaustive, and you should always consult with a lawyer if you have questions about the law in your jurisdiction.
Where we do publish canaries
Jurisdictions where a canary is legally available are listed in the directory. Those pages are the ones to watch for a missed update.
